First Day of Overwatch PIT Championship Open Qualifiers – Report

March 16, 2017

First day of Overwatch PIT Open Qualifiers has now concluded

46 teams signed up, but only 37 checked in. After a few exciting hours of  BO1s’, we have our semi – finalists.

European semi – finalists are:

  • Helsinki RED
  • Singularity Ninjaz
  • VIVI’d adventure

Team Helsinki REDS managed to upset number 1 seeded team EX-cyclone on control map – Oasis in an18 minutes match. Vivi’s adventure also beat an arguably stronger team Red Reserve in quick fashion on Dorado; it took just 13 minutes. All of the teams will play in a best of three tomorrow, to decide who is going to participate in the Group Stages of Overwatch Pit Championship.

The North American part of the bracket featured 25 teams, which is low amount considering how good that region is in Overwatch.
North American finalists are:

  • You got paid?
  • Gale Force eSports
  • Selfless Gaming
  • Counter Logic Gaming

“You got paid?” forced a stunning upset against favourites Fnatic, athough it should be mentioned that a number of the Fnatic players were playing from Europe.  The map played was King’s row and it was kind of a short game, only lasting 14 minutes. No major surprises in the bottom part of the bracket as both Counter Logic Gaming, and team Selfless Gaming advance to the finals.

Winner of the qualifier for each region will have a chance to select a group which they wish to play in, and one could say, a lot is at stake for that match as well, as 4 teams from Group stage will advance to Playoffs.
Make sure to tune in tomorrow at 18:00 CET for European semis and 17:00 PST for the North American part of Overwatch PIT Championship qualifiers.
