CIRS has summarized and analyzed the situation of approved Technical Grade Active Ingredients (TGAIs) in China up until December 24, 2024.
In 2024, 167 TGAIs were registered, nearly matching the cumulative number of registrations over the past five years. There were 23 registrations for chlorantraniliprole. Herbicides remain the top category without question. Among new active ingredients, microbial pesticides have the highest proportion. Shandong Weifang Rainbow has obtained the largest number of registrations.
The Number of Approved TGAIs
The figure below shows the number of approved TGAIs over the past five years. From the figure, the number of TGAIs has increased annually, reaching 167 in 2024 (including the 13th batch of new pesticides proposed for approval in 2024), matching the total registrations from 2020 to 2023.
Active Ingredient and Category of Approved TGAIs
According to the China Pesticide Information Network, as of December 24, 2024, there are 167 approved TGAIs (including the 13th batch of new pesticides proposed for registration in 2024, excluding 43 TGAIs exclusively for export). The table below represents the newly approved TGAIs, their categories, and their number in China in 2024.
Among these, Chlorantraniliprole has the largest number of registrations (23), followed by:
- Glufosinate-P (16);
- Prothioconazole (8);
- Tembotrione (7); and
- Topramezone (6).
Based on the approved TGAI categories, herbicides still occupy an absolute advantage, followed by insecticides, fungicides, and plant growth regulators.
In 2024, 12 new active ingredients were registered (highlighted in red). Among these, seven are microbial pesticides, accounting for about 60%, there are also three chemical pesticides, one biochemical pesticide, and one botanical pesticide.
